Safe In My Skin (2026)
Safe in My Skin is a short film by New York-based director Dylan Rizzo. SIMS is about a Chinese-American man who returns to the small town he grew up in for a childhood friend’s funeral, where he confronts long-buried memories.
We moved our kitchen to an upstate New York rental in Livingston Manor, where we lived with and cooked for a crew of 22 members. It was great to have a base of operations for most meals and food storage. On some outdoor days, we brought a buffet and easy-to-transport lunches.
SIMS will premiere at the Nantucket Film Festival as part of the UPROOTED shorts program.

The Crafty Menu
We love to see crew members pile their plates high. Long shoot days are physically exhausting, so we served healthy dishes to recharge them for the next day.
Here is our adobo pork tenderloin, roasted potatoes, delicata squash, and rye berry salad with cranberry and apple. We were very grateful to Allwell Greens for donating the loose bok choy leaves we served all week.
We whipped up a big casserole of chicken enchilada pie, originally known as enchilada Azteca, which is layering the tortillas like you would lasagna instead of rolling them up. We served it with cinnamon black beans, esquites, and crema.
For an especially cold day, we had stir-fried rice noodles with vegetables and cozy miso soup.
For our final day, lunch needed to be portable. We assembled and wrapped turkey pesto sandwiches and packed up all the leftovers so the crew could take home whatever they wanted.
Our producer Abyn got creative and started adding breakfast leftover hashbrowns and bottle gourd kimchi to his sandwich.
