How We Celebrated Our Gastronauts Debut (2025)

Gastronauts is a cooking competition show on Dropout hosted by Jordan Myrick. Culinary masterminds compete in a series of challenges created by the most unhinged comedians. The first season debuted in 2024, and our very own chef, Jenn de la Vega competed on season 2, episode 5 on October 10th, 2025.

On the night of the screening, we hosted a watch party at Wonderville with live commentary and snacks from the show.

Jenn's space food themed gel nails were designed by local artist Claire Wu.

After we watched the show with a live audience, we served up a selection of dishes from the episode. Up first, we didn't have short rib kei trucks, but made the mixture into short rib meatballs with tamarind BBQ glaze. The tamarind bbq sauce recipe is from Tway Nguyen's cookbook Di An. Jenn also offered a spritz of spicy "windshield wiper fluid," which was an amalgamation of pika, pickle from Curacao; and pikliz, a pickle from Haiti. Both recipes can be found in ISLAS by Von Diaz.

Next, we brought out shots of strawberry beet milk and mini polvoron bath bombs. Or shall we call them "hand soaps"? Two flavors were on offer: pear and almond, as well as raspberry rose. Polvoron is a Filipino no-bake cookie made with toasted flour, powdered milk, and melted brown butter. The original recipe can be found in MAYUMU by Abi Balingit.

We made a big platter of French 75 fondue with gin-scented potato chips. We took Jordan's advice and toned down the alcohol in the recipe. The cheese is a mix of gruyere with one of our favorite cheeses, Cremont, which is a bloomy goat cheese from Vermony Creamery. Goat milk cheeses tend to pair well with herbs and lemon zest on account of their tangy nature.

A Party Tip

We want to thank Murray's Cheese Shop for donating this large platter of cheese and charcuterie. Their composed cheese boards are a lifesaver when you're too busy to put one together yourself.

You can order them delivered to your door or pick up locally in New York City. We may earn commissions when your purchase through our link.

Consider joining Dropout to watch both seasons of Gastronauts as well as other beloved shows for $6.99 per month or $59.00 for the year. We are not compensated for saying so, but Jenn may benefit from the talent profit share at the end of 2025.
